A good field of 24 players contested the Wilks/Smith Monthly Medal at Lucindale last Wednesday. The MOG’s (Mother of the Grooms) were back in town and enthralled us with wedding stories over a delicious luncheon after play.
With a fine return to form Petrina Smith was the Monthly Medal winner with nett 72. Leanne Graetz was runner up on 74. Off the stick winner was Sharon Menz with 93. The A graders found the putting hard work with Sharon’s 27 putts the only score under 30 in the field. Rosie was nearest the pin on the 3rd and her successful par putt brought back memories of when she was playing with a new golfer a few years ago and dropped the magic word after missing a gimmee on the same hole. This new golfer has been known to let the odd one slip and quietly thanks Rosie for her generous introduction to the etiquette of golf. Leanne was singing the praises of Petrinas scones after sneaking into the clubrooms for some sustenance after 9 holes and improving her score by 10 shots on the back 9. Jacki, however was not so complimentary with the same recipe costing her 5 extra shots on the same holes.
Julie Wilks continued her amazing run of form to score a nett 73. With her handicap dropping at a rate of knots it won’t be long before she is writing her name above the line. I daresay she wasn’t the only one to hit trees and end up further away (twice) but she did it in style and with great recovery shots went on to take out the B grade division. Megan Watson showed she won’t be a 45 golfer for much longer to be runner up with nett 75 on a countback from Audrey Brooker who is also having a blue ribbon streak of form at present. Julie was best with the putter with 27.
The nine hole winners were Karen Gould nett 42 1/2, runner up was Fiona McInnes nett 44 1/2, with Penny Bruce a very excited recipient of the putting prize with her 18 putts. Nearest to the pins in 2 were Fiona on the 3rd, Rachel Smith on the 12th and Karen on the 16th.
Judy James represented the club superbly (as is becoming the custom) at Blue Lake open day to be runner up off the stick winner in B grade and also brought home the long drive and NTP prizes.
Next week is our 3rd round of qualifying for the Elders Club Championships.
